The traditional Kotor Winter Carnival returns on Sunday, February 22, at 2 PM, bringing color, satire, music and high spirits to the streets of Kotor, organizers from the Kulturni centar „Nikola Đurković“ Kotor announced.
“Dress warmly – there may be strong bora winds, but there will be even stronger carnival vibes as we continue the festivities with plenty of cheer and surprises!” the announcement reads.
Saturday Warm-Up: Music, Majorettes & Charity
The celebration kicks off on Saturday, February 21. The majorettes of Mažoretke „Fešta“ and the City Music Band will parade through town starting at 10:30 AM.
After the traditional walk through the Old Town, a charity carnival raffle will take place at 11 AM in the garden of Kafana „Dojmi“. Visitors will also be able to purchase the humorous and satirical carnival paper Karampana.
Important Traffic & Parking Information (Sunday, February 22)
To ensure the carnival parade and final ceremony run smoothly, several temporary road closures and parking restrictions will be in place.
Parade Assembly & Road Closures
• The carnival procession will assemble on the lower road in Dobrota, from the open swimming pool to the Aroma market in Dobrota.
• This section of road will be closed to traffic from 12 PM to 3 PM.
• All parked vehicles must be removed from this area no later than 11:30 AM on Sunday.
• Motorcycles will NOT be allowed to park on the waterfront (Riva) on carnival day.
Additionally:
• The main road, from the open swimming pool to the Idea supermarket at the roundabout, will be closed from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM.
• The local road from the main roundabout (near the Main Post Office) to the dry cleaner Hemijska čistiona „Limili“ will be closed from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM.
Vehicle & Boat Removal – Mandatory
The traditional “trial and burning” of the carnival effigy will take place at Maceo.
Residents are required to:
• Remove vehicles along the stretch from the flower shop to the restaurant Restoran „Galion“ (approx. 100 meters)
• The restriction applies from Saturday, February 21 at 5 PM until Sunday, February 22 at 5 PM
• Remove any boats located near the effigy burning site no later than 10 AM on Sunday, February 22
These measures are necessary to prevent possible damage.
The Grand Finale
After the symbolic burning of the “culprit” responsible for all of last year’s misfortunes, the celebration continues at the main town square with trophy awards and live concerts by THE GRUPA and Bruno Rački.
The Winter Carnival is organized by the Kulturni centar „Nikola Đurković“ Kotor, co-organized by the Turistička organizacija Kotor, and held under the patronage of the Opština Kotor.
