Montenegro still has secrets, said Katty and Mike Loik, known as katty.the.traveller on Instagram. Russian photographers based in Montenegro are known for atmospheric images and thoughtful approach to capturing the soul of Montenegro and beyond – from hidden gems to cosy, slow-living escapes. Their photography invites you to pause, breathe and see places with new eyes.
They recently visited Captain’s Lake and Lukavica Plateau and made some stunning photos.
These locations are truly one of a kind. They look unreal – like something out of a fairy tale.
Stunning and different in the most unforgettable way.
At 1,678 meters above sea level, Captain’s Lake stretches 480 meters in length and 200 meters in width, with crystal depths reaching down 37 meters. But it’s not just the numbers that make it unforgettable – it’s the feeling.
This alpine jewel lies on the border between two Montenegrin municipalities – Nikšić and Kolašin.
For those coming from Nikšić, the lake is accessible by car – ideally a 4×4, as the road is quite rough.
But the true magic lies in the second route: across flower-covered fields. If you’re fit and ready for the adventure, the trail from Kolašin offers an unforgettable way to reach this hidden alpine gem.
Katty and Mike enjoyed in blooming landscapes.
“This is hidden alpine gem in the heart of Montenegro. Wild, quiet, surreal. Turquoise waters, dramatic peaks, and absolute peace – no crowds, just nature. If you are looking for raw beauty off the beaten path, this is it” – she wrote on her Instagram post, with hashtag #sharemontenegro.
Thank you, Katty and Mike, for sharing Montenegrin beauty on such amazing way!
